Любовь - мой грех. И твой законный гнев
Есть ненависть к любви моей порочной,
Но ты сравни обоих нас, успев
На всё поставить в этой ставке очной.
Твои надменно-лживые уста
Изобличать себе внушили право:
Посрамлена вовек их красота
Неправомерной клятвою лукавой.
Моя любовь к тебе - грех небольшой,
Как и иные, прочие, влеченья:
Ты жалостью мне сердце успокой
И, может быть, получишь сожаленье.
Но коль глуха ты к искренней мольбе,
То, знай, - не будет жалости тебе!

Be it lawful I love thee, as thou lov'st those
Whom thine eyes woo as mine importune thee:
Root pity in thy heart, that when it grows
Thy pity may deserve to pitied be.
If thou dost seek to have what thou dost hide,
By self-example mayst thou be denied.
